Furies, The (2019)

Unread post by Krappy » 7 months ago

Rebellious high school students Kayla (Airlie Dodds) and her best friend Maddie (Ebony Vagulans) are stalked and abducted by a sinister presence while out bombing their neighborhood with graffiti. Waking up, in the woods, bound and disoriented in a claustrophobic coffin-like apparatus, Kayla’s first thought is of Maddie. Before she has a chance to ruminate on the dreadful fate that may have befallen her friend, Kayla notices a terrifying masked man fast approaching, armed with a razor-sharp ax. As a chase ensues, it soon becomes clear that Kayla and her pursuer are not alone.

There are six more young women, each with a masked stalker assigned to them, hell-bent on murder. If that girl dies, so does the stalker - retinal cameras implanted in their eyes are unwilling players in a deadly game. As the threat of more killers close in, she races to save as many girls as she can. But when the girls turn on each other, Kayla’s killer instinct is unleashed and she does whatever it takes to survive and seek revenge on her abductors.

Will stream on Shudder in the US.
The look and feel of the movie is inspired by horror films of the ‘70s and the goal of the filmmakers was to do everything practical and camera without the use of CGI. The director was quoted saying: “I want the violence to be messy and visceral!”
The film’s title is reportedly based on the goddesses in Greek mythology “who exacts vengeance on men who have wronged women.”
Described as a “gripping female-driven horror film that burrows into universal themes of survival, revenge, and redemption.”
Over one hundred liters of blood were used by the crew during the shoot in the country town of Bywong – a historic gold mining village just outside of Australia’s capital city, Canberra.
The Furies will release in Australia on November 7th, 2019.
The Furies premieres on Shudder October 3, 2019.

DIRECTOR: Tony D’Aquino
