Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)

Unread post by Krappy » 7 months ago

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying tome.

Filming in Toronto, Canada. (9/12/18)
According to producer Guillermo del Toro the filmmakers are aiming to preserve the look of Stephen Gammell’s creepy illustrations for the various creature designs in the movie.
It’s rumored that the current script for the film features the human scarecrow from “Harold” and the girl who has spiders crawl out of her face in “The Red Spot."
Norwegian director Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) is set to direct.
Guillermo del Toro originally intended to direct the film, but due to his busy schedule will simply produce instead.
Dan and Kevin Hageman (The Lego Movie, Hotel Transylvania) have been recently hired to work on the script. Producer Guillermo del Toro (who also worked with them on another project) had this to say about the brothers: “I have had such a great time working with the Hagemans on Trollhunters – and they have proven to be such brilliant writers – that the fit for this material was just perfect: they grew up with the books, they love the genre and they are smart and emotional when writing characters.” (2/25/16)
Scripted by John August (Big Fish, Frankenweenie, GO).
At one point Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Feast, The Collector, Saw 4 to 7) were hired to script the project.
Apparently some of the stories in the book will be featured in the film.
Based on the Alvin Schwartz children’s book series with the same name, which is based on folklore and urban legends.
Lionsgate released Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark on August 9, 2019.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is coming to life next month and this new featurette is selling the movie hard.

Director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro talk about ensuring that the film respects the source material and the fantastic art, while also pitching the adaptation as a horror film meets Amblin – the kind of genre movie you could take your kid to see. There’s also some new footage, which sucks if you’re scared of spiders…

The popular children’s books “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” have hit the big screen, thanks to Guillermo del Toro. The chilling illustrations that defined the Alvin Schwartz books were made by practical-effects company Spectral Motion. INSIDER’s Joe Avella visited the team in Los Angeles to find out how they brought the monsters to life.
